O caminho foi longo para chegar ao lançamento deste filme, com a campanha de fãs #ReleaseTheSnyderCut lançada pela primeira vez em 2017, quando se tornou aparente que a versão de Liga da Justiça era bastante diferente da visão de Snyder. Uma tragédia familiar fez com que Snyder se afastasse do filme antes que estivesse concluído, e o diretor dos Vingadores, Joss Whedon, supervisionou as refilmagens que mudaram substancialmente o filme.
Liga da justiça Snyder Cut atinge a duração de 240 minutos, dos quais cerca de 150 são cenas inéditas para os fãs. Fotografias adicionais trouxeram de volta o Golpe da Morte de Joe Manganiello e apresentaram o Coringa de Jared Leto ao filme, ambos na linha do tempo de Knightmare, um futuro alternativo onde Darkseid conseguiu conquistar a Terra, vislumbrado pela primeira vez em Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. Snyder revelou que essa linha do tempo seria um fator em uma sequência, embora ele também tenha deixado claro que ele não acha que um segundo filme acontecerá.
